Recovery after rhinoplasty is just as important as the surgery itself. Knowing what to expect at each stage makes the process far easier to manage.
Week 1: Splint and Swelling
A splint and dressings are placed immediately after surgery. Swelling and bruising peak around 48–72 hours, this is entirely expected. Keep your head elevated, apply cold compresses, and avoid strenuous activity. Gentle indoor walking is encouraged to support circulation.
Week 2: Splint Removal
The splint is typically removed between days 7 and 10. Most patients feel comfortable returning to social settings after this point, though swelling continues to subside gradually. If you wear glasses, avoid resting them on your nose for at least 6 months.
Month 1: Shape Settling
Around 80% of the final appearance is visible by the end of the first month. Day-to-day fluctuations in swelling are normal. Avoid direct sun exposure and high-intensity exercise during this period.
Months 6–12: Final Result
The nasal skin and cartilage continue adapting throughout this period. The definitive outcome becomes clear between 6 and 12 months after surgery. We assess your progress at remote follow-up appointments via photo review or an online consultation with your doctor.
